United Nations' science and knowledge processes call for multiple evidence-based approaches to environmental actions, knowledge production, assessments and policy making. UNESCO provides capacity building and technical support to Member States, indigenous peoples and local communities, and to scientists to mobilise indigenous and local knowledge for responding to environmental challenges, climate adaptation, early warning systems, resilience building and achieving sustainable development. RP resources support participatory research, transdisciplinary cooperation, assessments and policy development that link sciences with indigenous and local knowledge as well as intergenerational transmission of knowledge. The LINKS approach is rights-based, ethical and gender responsive in methodology.
