For 2022-2023, the International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme in LAC plans to take steps towards contributing to SDG's UNESCO Global Geoparks be it 1, 4, 5, 8, 11, 13, 17. IGGP will mobilize key partners, LAC Geoparks Network, government officials and geological services to raise visibility and awareness on the fact that UNESCO Global Geoparks play a major role, as they combine scientific with local knowledge and participatory governance with a view to reduce loss of biodiversity, conserve geodiversity, improve livelihoods of local communities and enhance social, economic and cultural conditions, including employment opportunities for youth. Currently, LAC region has only 8 UGGps, hence technical support will be given to aUGGps as to duplicate the number in the present biennium.
