Clean water is vital for human health, ecosystems and biodiversity. Protecting and improving water quality is central for the sustainability of water resources and SDGs achievement. It is crucial to strengthen the knowledge base on the quality of the world's water resources and promote innovative approaches to improving water quality and reducing water pollution, including source-to-sea and nexus approaches and non-conventional water resources. Contributing to IHP-IX Outputs 1.8, 1.9, 4.3, 4.4 and 4.5, the activity will support at least 5 Member States (2 in Africa) by: disseminating knowledge and building capacity on emerging pollutants, microplastics, and climate change; and promoting innovative water quality monitoring through UNESCO World Water Quality Portal based on satellite EO.
