Project ID 2210221032
The IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report (2021) highlights that the rapid melting of the Cryosphere (snow, glacier, permafrost and ice) is one of the most visible impacts of climate change in the world. Furthermore, during the past 20 years, the two main water-related disasters, floods and droughts caused more than 166,000 deaths and affected another three billion people globally. By 2050, desertification alone will threaten the livelihoods of nearly one billion people in about 100 countries. Along the line of IHP IX priority areas: at least 5 member states, of which 2 in Africa and 1 SIDS and including 3 basins will be provided with scientific tools and methodologies to address hydrological and cryosphere challenges, hydrological extremes water scarcity and sediment transport and management.
