Sandwatch is an educational process through which school students, teachers and local communities are empowered through a practical hands-on approach, in an interdisciplinary manner, to scientifically monitor the coastal environment and address related problems. It helps them develop critical thinking skills and instills a sense of caring for their beaches and coastal areas. Investigation focuses on different aspects of the beach such as: Beach erosion and accretion; impact of human activities on the beach; beach debris; water quality; etc. Particular emphasis is placed on observations and adaptation strategies relating to the impacts of climate change and natural disasters, thus enable sandwatch participants contribute to building ecosystem resilience and adapting to climate change.
