The Pacific SIDS are increasingly acknowledging the tremendous value of nurturing the ST&I sector and investing in institutional and human capacity development as the need grows for sound policy and technical advice that is based on credible scientific information using nationally and regionally collected data. A regional webinar held for the Pacific SIDS region in November 2020 in support of the UNESCO consultations on the creation of a recommendation on open science called for Regional governments to engage at the state level to sign declarations for open science and promote policies which make open Science a co-constructed knowledge system, accountable to society. Initiatives in these areas will be continued, especially the piloting of ST&I policy development for Samoa.
