Le projet privilégie les activités contribuant à une connaissance accrue de l'histoire des traites et des esclavages et qui valorisent les contributions des personnes mises en esclavage dans nos sociétés. Ces activités rappellent les rôles souvent oubliés des femmes dans cette histoire et les conséquences différenciées de ces héritages et les formes contemporaines d'esclavage qu'elles subissent. Les piliers énoncés dans le nouveau cadre stratégique ont permis de définir 3 axes majeurs d'intervention: identifier et promouvoir le patrimoine culturel matériel et immatériel lié aux personnes mises en esclavage; développer des outils pédagogiques adaptés à la diversité des public cibles; documenter l'impact économique des conséquences des traites et des esclavages dans les sociétés modernes.
