In this programme, UNESCO's works to make sure that underwater cultural heritage is properly identified, protected and sustainably managed by Member States, in particular through the wide ratification and effective implementation of the 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage. The workplan contributes to OP 2 in seeking to strengthen synergies with the 1970 Convention's programme and the museum unit.
