The destruction of cultural property in the course of armed conflicts has been all too common in recent years. Such crimes highlight an urgent need to encourage and ensure the implementation of the relevant international treaties, in particular the 1954 Convention .To this end, Article 5 of the 1999 Second Protocol requires from the state parties to take preparatory measures in time of peace for the safeguarding of cultural property against the foreseeable effects of an armed conflict . To that effect UNESCO will provide a targeted capacity building training for the Lebanese Armed Forces and UNIFIL Officers in the protection of cultural property based upon the guidance of the 1954 Convention and its two protocols
