The countries in the Jakarta cluster contains a rich linguistic diversity. In Indonesia, around 700 languages are spoken across its 17500 islands, in Malaysia around 130 languages are spoken, in the Philippines around 120 languages are spoken, whereas in Timor-Leste about twelve languages are spoken in the island state. Nevertheless, as in other parts of the world, many of these indigenous languages are under threat and are in danger of being forgotten. Many of these languages are also not available natively on the Internet, making it difficult to attract younger generations to use and interact digitally in their indigenous languages.
