As the UN conceptualizes its response to the impact of the pandemic, UNESCO-CI mandate has a significant positioning potential. The NY Office will use its diplomatic standing, its communication and its convening power to guarantee UNESCO's positioning on issues such as freedom of expression and press freedom, security of journalists and media development, access to information and the fight against disinformation. These issues are increasingly being taken up by the UN entities; it is therefore essential to carry UNESCO's voice, to ensure its leadership and to work closely with diplomatic missions to ensure that member states take up the issues UNESCO stands for. The NY Office will establish synergies between the UN based entities such as the General Assembly, HLPF, ECOSOC and others.
