Overall knowledge and understanding of HIV, AIDS and related issues is very low throughout Sierra Leone. Although 72.3% of the adolescents had heard of the term HIV or AIDS, only 7.7% could show that they had an adequate understanding. The NDHS 2019 revealed that 21% of women age 15-19 had begun childbearing. The proportion of teenagers who had begun childbearing rises rapidly with age, from 4% at age 15 to 45% at age 19. UNESCO will work with partners to organize a national stakeholders' consultations towards the WCA Ministerial commitment for educated, healthy and thriving adolescents and young people to come up with recommendations that would address these health and social challenges
