This Special Account, established by the Executive Board in 1988 (130EX/Decision 5.4.1) aims at the Safeguarding of the cultural heritage, particularly the Islamic monuments, of the Old City of Jerusalem. The remaining funds are to be utilised within the framework of the UNESCO Action Plan for the safeguarding of the cultural heritage of the Old City of Jerusalem, when the local context's conditions permit.
