The project for the elaboration of a conservation/management plan for Historic Cairo was initiated in 2010, aiming at the preparation of an outline of a conservation plan for the World Heritage property and its Buffer Zones, the elaboration of a Management Plan, the setting up of an institutional framework to develop a sustainable urban conservation policy, promoting the coordination amongst the different institutions, concerned with the management of the property, and, the creation of an appropriate and shared information platform for urban conservation.
