The UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence is intended to honour significant activities in the scientific, artistic, cultural or communication fields that aim to promote a spirit of tolerance and non-violence. Established in 1995 to mark the United Nations Year for Tolerance and the 125th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, renewed by decision of the Executive Board (192 EX/Decision 35), the Prize has been awarded biennially since 1996, on the occasion of the International Day for Tolerance and the anniversary day of the founding of UNESCO - 16 November. In 2014, the Prize will be awarded for the ninth time.
