Project ID 505RLA4000

The Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region has nearly 150 World Heritage sites and 90 Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) elements. Sustainable tourism is a pillar for local economic development, employment and heritage conservation but COVID-19 severely disrupted this. The region needs upskilling of the tourism and heritage workforce to support communities and heritage protection, and cross-sectoral cooperation and integration of ICH in development planning. The project will enhance sustainability of World Heritage destinations through capacity building programmes and integrate the safeguarding of ICH into urban plans, policies, and programmes.
