As part of the broader programme implemented under the Global Media Defence Fund (GMDF), UNESCO shall establish and administer an Crisis Response Mechanism (CRM) to provide time-sensitive emergency support to journalists and media in distress in countries experiencing unforeseen or sudden major crises affecting media community, with the aim of ensuring the immediate safety of media workers facing danger or threat as a direct result of their profession, with a focus on women journalists; as well as supporting the work of journalists and media outlets working on the ground to continue to safely and professionally report the news and avoid an information vacuum in crisis-affected countries.
