Project ID 729RLA2000

The Guarani Aquifer System (GAS) is a transboundary groundwater system in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. The GEF project "Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development of GAS" led to the adoption of a Strategic Action Program aimed at GAS long-term sustainability. The aquifer countries signed the "Guarani Aquifer Agreement", the first shared-management agreement for a transboundary aquifer in Latin America. The present project will implement a technical coordination framework and regional management tools to enable the coordinated and harmonized implementation of the national level priority actions that will ensure the sustainability of this precious resource.
