Pacific SIDS are becoming increasingly vulnerable to climate change and water-related extreme events. Sound science-based policies and international cooperation are essential for sustenance of the declining fresh water resources and to bolster socio-economic development of the Pacific communities. The UNESCO IHP is uniquely placed to extend the Organization's reach in the field of water by consolidating and fostering alliances and scientific exchanges, and by encouraging knowledge sharing and operational partnerships for increasing water security. Activities will be supported to strengthen hydrological capacities of Pacific SIDS, especially through re-engaging of the International Hydrological Programme in the Pacific, and for the implementation of the new indicator on water education.
