The new paradigm in water management recognizes that healthy and functional ecosystems are a critical and sustainable way to secure access to water and ensure related environmental services for the development of inclusive and sustainable societies depending of this precious resource. The participation of young people, women and indigenous people, among other vulnerable groups, is vital to achieve integrated water resource management. Science-based information for decision-making, capacity building in water diplomacy becomes key to face the challenges in Central American, a region highly affected by extreme hydro-meteorological events due to high vulnerability to climate change, and limited cooperation, governance and articulation mechanisms with relevant stake-holders in the countries.
