The purpose of the Carlos J. Finlay UNESCO Prize for Microbiology is to reward an individual, institution, or other entity or non-governmental organization who, through research and development, has made an outstanding contribution to the field of microbiology (including immunology, molecular biology, genetics, etc.) and its applications throughout the world. The objective of the Prize is in conformity with UNESCO's policies and is related to the Programme of the Organization in the field of promoting scientific research.
